Copyright for CCPS Educators

What is copyright?

  • Copyright refers to the right of authors, illustrators or producers to control the sale, marketing, copying or use of an original work
  • The purpose of copyright is to "promote the progress of Science and Useful Arts."

Many people think that copyright exists to protect commerce. But, in reality, its purpose is to encourage science and innovation by creating a culture in which people can profit from their intellectual products.
